11 1781; died July 21, 1852. His mother was born in Massachusetts in June,
1788 -- Rachel Draper, daughter of Samuel Draper, who resided in Onondaga
Co., New York at the time of her birth and where she was married to Joseph
Weller Rood, April 13, 1806.
Dr. Weller Draper Rood, the oldest of four sons, was born in Pompey, Onondaga Co., New York, December 22, 1807. Was educated at Pompey where he read medicine with Dr. Parson G. Shiprian, attending lectures at Rutger's Medical College, New York City, and received a diploma in 1830. After practicing five years in his native state he went to Quincy, Illinois March, 1838 and at once put out his shingle. For eighteen years he was prominent among the active physicians of the city. In 1856, on account of the failing health of his wife, he retired from practice; bought a farm in Gilmer Township to which he moved. He married Laura Caroline Wood, daughter of James Wood, of Orange Co., New York September 26, 1835. She died February 13, 1847, leaving one child, Mary Carrie Rood, now the wife of James Berry Tomlinson, of Camp Point, Illinois. He married again May 2, 1849 to Mary A. Davis Baldwin. Their marriage resulted in two sons -- William Carey Rood, born February 1, 1853, and Weller Draper Rood, Jr., born March 27; 1855. His second wife died July 5, 1875. Dr. Rood has been connected with the Baptist Church since he was fourteen years of age. He was Clerk of 1st Church of Quincy for many years. He owned a double house No. l404-06, Broadway, and a lot in Chestnut St., Quincy, and a house and lot in Camp Point.
