Pearl Ethel Tomlinson Lambert loved to read and write. She loved all that was beautiful and of good report. She was sought out for her speaking abilities and kept record of every talk she had every given.. She would write down a favorite quote, poem, or story on scraps of paper -- old papers found in her home were covered with written prose or poetry -- no spare space or blank paper was ever wasted. She compiled books throughout her lifetime of the works that she enjoyed so much or wrote herself. I am sure a day never passed without her writing down a worthy thought, scribbling down a poem or pondering the written word. She loved the literary arts.
Beatitudes of a House-Wife.
Blessed is she whose daily task is a labor of Love; for her willing hands and happy Heart, translates duty into privilege, and her labor becomes a service to God and all mankind. Blessed is she who opens the door to both stranger and well loved Friend, for gracious Hospitality is a test of Love. Blessed is she who mends stockings and toys, and broken hearts; for her understanding is a balm to Humanity. Blessed is she who scours and scrubs, for well she knows that cleanliness is next to Godliness. Blessed I she who children love; for the Love of a child is more to be valued than fortune of fame. Blessed is she who sings at her work, for music lightens the heaviest load and brightens the dullest chore. Blessed is she who dusts away doubt and fear, and sweeps out the cobwebs of confusion for her faith will triumph over adversity. |

A Virtuous Woman She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the Law of Kindness. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her Blessed, her husband also, and he praiseth her. Proverbs: 31: 26-28 |

THE IDEAL HOME-MAKER Grandmother, on a winter’s day, milked the cows and fed them hay, slopped the hogs, saddled the mule, then got the children off to school, did a washing, mopped the floors, washed the windows and did some chores, cooked a dish of home-dried fruit, pressed her husband’s Sunday suit. Swept the parlor, made the bed, baked a dozen loaves of bread, split some fire- wood, and then lugged in enough to fill the kitchen bin; cleaned the lamps and put in oil, stewed some apples she thought would spoil; churned the butter, baked a cake, then exclaimed, “For heaven’s sake, the calves have got out of the pen!” ---- went out and chased them in again. Gathered the eggs and locked the stable, back to the house and set the table, cooked a supper that was delicious, and afterward washed up all the dishes, fed the cat and sprinkled the clothes, mended a basket full of hose; then opened the organ and began to play, “When You Come to the End of a Perfect Day.”

A Farmer whose barns were filled with wheat was accustomed to pray for the poor and needy to be feed and clothed, but when asked for a little grain for them, he would say, he had none to spare. One night after hearing his father pray so earnestly for the poor to be fed, his little son said to him, “Father, I wish I had all your wheat.” “What would you do with it” asked the father. “I would answer your Prayer.” Said the child. _________________
Once an old Scotchman said, “Lord keep me alive as long As I live.” There is great philosophy in that little Prayer. _________________

The Docrine & Covenants says if things are alright, he will cause a feeling of Peace to come over one.
Abraham Lincoln experienced this feeling. When General Daniel E. Sickles asked him, “Was you not very anxious during the Gettysburg Battle?” “I had no fear”, Said the President. “You see when every one was panic stricken, and nobody could tell what was going to happen. I went into my room and locked the door, and got down upon my knees, before the Almighty God, and prayed mightily for Victory at Gettysburg. I told the Lord if we were to win the Battle He must do it for us. That it was his war, and Our Cause, was his Cause. Then I made a solemn Vow to the Almighty. God, that if he would stand by our Boys at Gettysburg That I would stand by Him. After that a sweet comfort came Into my soul, that things would be alright, at Gettysburg, And that is why I had no fear.” _______________
How often I have experienced that Peace of Soul, that comes from above. When my children have been seriously ill- or out late at night, on these dangerous streets in autos (and) I was alone - I had no husband to Counsel with – so I would turn to my Heavenly Father in might Prayer for his protection and care for my fatherless children, who were in immediate danger. When I would arise from that supplication, a Peace would steal over my soul, and I had the sweet assurance that everything would be alright

MY BROTHER’S KEEPER
In Pioneer days when the Saints were nearly starving, Grandpa Lambert lived this Law of the Church perfectly. No matter what he had he was willing to share. He had a large family to feed, but if a brother was in need, he gave to the last drop in the house. Once he gave the last morsel and his wife exclaimed in horror “Charles, we have nothing to feed our family for breakfast, what shall we do?” We will go tell the Lord, He will not let us starve. They prayed earnestly. The next morning before breakfast, a wagon drove in the lot with sufficient food to last until they obtained more. When asked why the Brother came, he said, “I got a call from the Lord to bring you food. He had to call me three times before he got me up.”
We have been speaking mostly of the physical side of this wonderful lesson. There is a Spiritual attitude we must create if we are Brothers.
The Savior said, that the greatest joy and happiness comes to those who center their lives on love and service to others. That we should love one another as He loves us. Someone has said, “Man becomes successful and great exactly in the degree to which he works for the welfare and uplifting of his fellow men.”
The greatest gift we could bestow on man would be to give him sufficient interest in gaining a testimony, that God lives, that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of our loving father above, that the Holy Ghost has the power to give them a living testimony that the Gospel has been restored with the same organization, power and Priesthood of the primitive church, that Christ organized the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints through the Prophet Joseph Smith by divine revelation. What greater reward could you have than see him baptized and a faithful worker in the Church.
Be not like the LDS neighbor who was afraid to mention religion for fear it would dissolve their friendship. Years passed. His son was sent on a Mission to Great Britain. The neighbor took a trip over there and hearing that the son of his friend was preaching in that vicinity, he went to hear him. The truth of his words were stirred up in his heart – he knew it was true. When he returned home he said to the father, “Why did you not tell me of your religion and let me enjoy the fruits of your wonderful Gospel all these past years. |

To My Dorothy
I should like to send you a Sunbeam, On the twinkle of some bright star Or the tiny piece of the downy fleece that Clings to a cloud afar. I should like to send you myriads of Sun-kissed flowers Or the lingering song, as it floats along, of a book through fairy bowers. I should like to send you the Dew Drops, That glisten at break of Day And then at night, the cheery light, That mantles the Milky Way. I should like to send you the power That nothing can overthrow – The power to Smile and Laugh the while As journeying through life we go. But these are mere fanciful wishes, I’ll send you God’s speed instead Then I’ll clasp your hand – And you’ll understand All the things I have left unsaid. From – Mother I Love You

YOUNG WOMANHOOD
My Dear Young Girls – How wonderful it is to be Young and full of Life and Vigor. Oh! How much the Lord must expect of YOU. You are so Precious to Him.
I hold in my Hand this Lovely Rose Bud, it has been watered and cultured daily. It Represents YOU ‘Beautiful Youth’ who have been cared for so Diligently – By your Loving Parents Year after Year. Now you are just Budding into ‘Lovely Young Womanhood.’ Which kind of Rose are you going to become? This Perfect Rose or the withered one?
O, Girls the Choice is yours, You must Decide, no one else can make that Decision. It takes Courage and Strength of Character to become as the Beautiful, Perfect Rose. Can you withstand the winds of Crime, Terror and Wickedness, and still grow Beautiful? We cannot bear to think of a bad Flower, but the chill of bad Company Destroys the Luster & the Bloom, yes the flower will freeze, and discolor and lose its Beauty. So We can become tainted by undesirable People, who can crush and destroy the very Soul.
Your Loving Parents expect YOU to Bloom Spiritually into a Beautiful, Perfect Flower in the Garden of God. A Charming Masterpiece, As God sent you here to become. You can be anything you choose to be – with the Help of Our Dear Lord.
You are the fellow that has to Decide, Whether You’ll do it or toss it aside. You are the One that makes up your Mind, Whether you’ll lead or linger behind. Whether You’ll try for the Goal that’s Afar, Or just be content to stay where you are. Take it or leave it, there’s something to do, Just think it over – it’s all up to YOU.
You must decide between Good and Evil. Success and Failure Industry or Sloth, Happiness or Misery – A Leader or Follower, A Worker for God – Or a Pleasure Seeker?
What could be more interesting than to Picture the Girl you want to Become? Do you think your Future-Self would measure up to what You and the Lord Expect? The Wise Youth will Plan and Direct Goals toward Worthwhile things in Life that will Promote Eternal Values. Watch your Daily Habits, “For Habit is a Strong Cable, upon which we weave Threads every day and at last we could not break it if we would.”
Treasure your Virtue, it’s the Beauty that adorns God’s Fairest Daughter’s Loveliness.
Think of the many Talents God has given you. Now is the time to Improve them and Make them Shine in Your Ward. God has Promised us more Talents if we Improve the ones We have. Believe in Yourself, You are a Child of God and have His wonderful Qualities. Have Faith in your Abilities, with a Humble but reasonable Confidence in your own – Powers which Lead to the Attainment of your Hopes and Success, Praying for Guidance.
“I can do all things, through Christ, who Strengtheneth Me,” said Paul. My Aims must be Strong and High – with Faith in God, I must Trust Him Completely. Take all your Joys and sorrows to Him Daily. He is Our Best Friend, He will not Fail us.
“There are Three Major Events in Life – Birth, Marriage and Death”, someone said. What could be more Beautiful than a Radiant, Sweet Young Woman with clean Hands and a Pure Heart, Looking over the vast Fields of Life, Planning what she wants to be? ‘A Wife and a Mother’ are her greatest Desire – she must Prepare for this Great Occasion. She must Associate with good Clean Young Men, and choose a Companion Active in the Church Who can take her to the Temple, where they can be Sealed for Time and Eternity, and their children will be Born in the New & Everlasting Covenant. The Priesthood will be in Their Home, the Beautiful Flower of Chastity, Eternal Love, Trust, Hope, Faith and Prayer.
President McKay says, “Womanhood should be Intelligent and Pure because it is the – ‘Living Fountain from which flows the Stream of Humanity.’ Who pollutes that Stream by tobacco or Poisonous Drugs, that damage the unborn, is not True to her Sex. She is an Enemy to the Strength and Perpetuity of the Race.”
The Hope and Glory of the Church are the Beautiful Youth who are preparing to Become Leaders of the HOME, THE CHURCH AND THE COUNTRY.
Oh! What Opportunities you have to become Leaders of Truth, Virtue & Righteous Principles, in this doubting Age.
May you “Carry On” the Refinement, Peace and Happiness you receive in your home. Oh! Be Pure My Dear Girls and Trust in God, He will Lead you by the Hand and give You Answer to Your Prayers. You will never Walk Alone, through Joy or Sorrow. You are a ‘Child of God’. He Loves YOU, Always Stay Close to HIM.
I Pass this On to my Precious Grand-children with Love and Prayer.
*******************
Grandma – Pearl E. Lambert October 1966 (?)
My Precious Grandchildren:
I thought you might have an opportunity at sometime to use some of these thoughts in teaching, or even in associating with the young people—read them over and be able to bring in a thought whenever it is practical. The young people need a lot of encouragement in these days of temptation.
Pres. McKay told of a young man who had to go to war—it broke her heart to see him go but when she went to see him off—“John, I want you to come home to me just as clean and sweet as you are now, or do not come back at all.” The officer said, “Madam, you must not expect that of your boy.” She said, “I do expect it of him and every Mormon mother expects it of her son.” Then as she kissed her son bye she said, “I expect that of you, John, and I know you will not disappoint me.”
*******************
This piece, “Young Womanhood,” I gave in a class at Mutual. I told them about the young girl who was so diplomatic in her prayers she said, “Dear Lord, I would not ask anything for myself, but please give my mother a Son-in-Law.”
*******************
Then I gave the lesson down to Habit is a strong cable – and told them of a little cucumber I saw growing in a bottle and later it was so large we could not pull it out. That is like our habits; they soon develop to a stage where they cannot be overcome.
*******************
Then where I said our Aims must be high – I told how Aladdin had sold his old faithful lamp for a bright new one, and how useless he found it – and his great regret. How we all have a faithful Light like Aladdin’s to guide us, “The Light of the Glorious Gospel.” It is our heritage, and as long as we do not sell it for sin and disloyalty, it will ever be a Light and Guide to your tender feet.
*******************
Then when the lesson was finished I passed a stick of gum around and said, “You all handle this gum thoroughly and see if you get any impressions.”
When it came back, it was a mess. Then I told them that stick of gum represented the beautiful young lady that was like the lovely rose, but she had allowed wicked boys handle her pure, lovely body until she had become like the ugly withered rose—and asked what pure young Latter-day Saint boy would want her to be his wife—or the mother of his children? Not one would want her, she was outcast.
*******************
No matter what else you are doing, from cradle days through to the end, you’re writing your life’s secret story, each night sees another page penned. Each day when you wake, the book opens, revealing a page clean and white, What thoughts and what words and what doings, will cover its surface by night? God leaves that to YOU. You’re the writer, & never one word shall grow dim, ‘Till some day you write the word, “Finished”, & give back your life book to Him.
We have to have the help of the Lord to give us strength to withstand temptation.
God will never fail us if we put our Trust in Him.
Love,
Grandma Lambert
