Excerpts from Pearl E. Lambert’s letters to her family |

October 17, 1954
Did I tell you what wonderful success we had last Tuesday. Robert McKay, Pres. David O. McKay’s son, came down with the slides they took in South America, and told us of some of the experiences they had down there. He was so cute, and kept the audience laughing all the time. He said no matter how tired his Parents were at night, a good rest made them as fresh as a frolicking kitten the next morning.
He never turned down a request by the Saints, no matter how far he had to travel, or how many meetings he had to hold. They had so many Conferences, and such crowds. The pictures were beautiful, all colored, some houses and buildings were grand, so modern.
One young man got right up in a big meeting and said, “Pres. McKay, I am in love with a beautiful negress girl and want to marry her, they tell me if I do I will loose my Priesthood and be cut off the Church, what shall I do?”
Pres. McKay said, “No, you will not be cut off the Church or loose your Priesthood, but you can never go through the Temple with this girl, although she is a Mormon, and if you ever have any male children they can never hold the Priesthood. You will have to decide.”
We had a hundred people to hear the lecture, the chapel was filled as full as it is many Sunday evenings. We took flowers, and decorated the stand, piano and table, one lady brought Autumn leaves, they were beautiful, the place looked very inviting.
I introduced him with a little poem, I had to make it up, could find nothing appropriate. After I greeted them, and told them how happy I was to see so many there, I said, “I know you will all be repaid for coming out tonight” For - -
We want to see this great big world, It takes a heap of money For this we all do long – This great big world to see, But our pocket-books are empty, And weeks and month of travel, And our bodies are not strong. Oh, how tired we would be.
But listen - - I’ve a secret – There’s one who traveled far, And is willing to give that Knowledge, to the humble fold we are
Bro. Robert McKay, son of Our Beloved President McKay
Now don’t laugh so hard, it was only in fun, everybody needs a little laugh once in a while, even if the laugh is on me. Any way we had a wonderful evening, it was ten o’clock when I got home. O, I love you every one. God Bless you all, Mother December 11, 1960
I was reading one of the causes of baldness is the scalp gets too tight from tension so be sure and rub your scalps and keep them loose, wiggle them back and forth. I love hair on the top of everybodys head, women can loose their hair too, so keep it vigorous.
June 11, 1961
It is a beautiful Sabbath Morning, the sun is shining in all its glory, the birds are singing and flowers blooming. All nature seems gay, so why not I? I really should be one of the happiest people in all the world with all my Precious Family, being a Member of the true & Everlasting Church of Jesus Christ & all my Dear Ones up in Heaven. My Great Objective now is to make myself worthy to meet them and help all of Dear Family to understand the way of Life that not one shall be missing when I present my Darlings to My Beloved Husband saying, “Daddy, here is your Wonderful Family, God has Blessed you with, everyone is here, not one is missing of your vast Posterity.”
Wouldn’t that be a Marvelous Reunion – let each of us work to that end while here. I read a wonderful piece by Apostle Sills saying – “We will not have to worry about the clothes we wear in Heaven, we are preparing them each day, and if we live to go into the Highest Kingdom by our worthy actions on earth, we will be clothed in fitting garments to go into the presence of God, the Greatest of all Kings and live there Eternally.”
This is a Challenge to us all for we love beautiful clothing on this earth.
March 25, 1962
The little Primary children sang at the Morning session, it was lovely, dozens of them and they were all singing it looked like.
A young man attending Seminary gave a fine speech – he said, “I asked a boy why he did not go to Seminary?” He said, “I can’t fit it in my schedule.” “Wonder if the Lord fits him in His schedule? If he is too busy to send one hour a day to learn about God.” Have you fitted your life into the schedule of God? Do you keep his Commandments? Do you expect Him to leave the Conference with the Prophets – and the millions things he has to do, just to help you with your little problems? Of course you do – He says, “if you lack wisdom as Him – in faith and you shall receive it. “Lets us fit us in His Schedule.”
Another Speaker said, “these 3 Questions were asked Ministers assembled in a Meeting. Do you believe in a Personal God, that were His children and made in His image? Do you believe Jesus Christ was the real son of God? Do you believe after you die that you will arise an intelligent person and know your Friends again?
Not one Minister could really answer “Yes” they didn’t know. I am sure thankful I can say “Yes” to each question. I am so thankful for the Knowledge the Lord has revealed in these Latter Days. November 7, 1965
At Fast Meeting so many people bore their Testimonies. I just sat still, still I have a very strong one. I heard over the radio: a Minister was speaking, he said, “There is not a Church on the earth today that completely fills the demands of the People.”
I thought I would just love to get a hold of that man and tell him about ours. We have a Church that satisfys every longing of the heart, an answer for every important question about life, where we came from; why we are here; and where are we going. It offers its Members development in many ways, gives great opportunities in Joy, Peace, happiness and satisfaction and Faith, Hope and knowledge of Great Rewards in Eternity, if we keep God’s commandments and ordinances in this Life. Our Reward will be according to our actions in the flesh, while upon the earth. So let us beware and Prepare every day.
